Kenyan Farmers Boost Productivity and Resilience through Digital Transformation

Microsoft, in partnership with the World Bank’s One Million Farmers Platform and AGRA, launched a collaborative initiative to transform Kenyan agriculture by supporting 14 local innovators. These innovators are equipped with technical mentorship, business guidance, and access to AI for Earth grants to create data-driven digital agriculture solutions. The programme partners with Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture and county governments, delivering skills development and technology adoption workshops across 16 counties. This digital transformation aims to help smallholder farmers—who form the majority of Kenya’s food producers—overcome persistent challenges related to market access, financing, low-yield inputs, and climate threats. Microsoft 4Afrika commits to enabling innovative solutions for food security and productivity by mentoring local startups in technology architecture and go-to-market strategies. Digital extension services, financial solutions, and market access platforms are central pillars of the strategy. The initiative prioritizes ecosystem-wide collaboration for maximum impact, connecting agritech startups with policy leaders, donors, and local authorities. The broader goal is to position Kenya and Africa to capture a projected $1 trillion food market by 2030, by leveraging technology and sustainability-focused grants.
