Finland Upskills Future AI Developers with National Microdegree Initiative

A major collaboration between Finnish higher education institutions and technology companies, with Microsoft Finland as a key partner, launched a free AI Developer microdegree program. The microdegree is designed to accelerate the growth of AI development skills across Finland, aiming to meet the increasing demand for AI talent and support responsible AI integration in workplaces. The program is university-level, open to all, and worth 10 ECTS credits, offering both foundational knowledge and practical exercises in AI, Azure, cloud services, and application development. Participants collaborate on real-world challenges and benefit from hands-on practice guided by industry mentors. The microdegree is part of the broader Skills for Jobs initiative, which seeks to skill or reskill 100,000 technology experts over five years. Numerous partners, including Arrow ECS Finland, Devisioona, Digital Workforce, Elisa, Reaktor, and Sovelto Eduhouse, contribute expertise and mentoring to the program. Business leaders and educators underscore the importance of continuous learning and digital innovation for national competitiveness as AI technology transforms work throughout society. Upon completion, students gain strong skills in AI, Azure, and data services, positioning Finland as a leading country in AI deployment.
