Healthcare Organization Ensures HIPAA-Compliant Legacy Content Migration

A large U. S.-based healthcare organization sought to migrate over 40 terabytes of legacy content from SharePoint on-premises and file shares to SharePoint Online while ensuring HIPAA compliance and protecting patient data. During the migration, the company faced significant challenges in classifying and cleansing legacy content for compliance and privacy, improving search and knowledge management, and securing sensitive information. To address these challenges, the organization partnered with Netwrix and utilized Microsoft technologies such as Office 365, SharePoint Online, and Microsoft 365 compliance tools. The migration process involved deploying classification, governance, and compliance tools to identify sensitive information, reduce data volumes, and automate the protection of records. The implementation resulted in successful, compliant migration, improved knowledge management, and reduced risk in handling sensitive health information. The project included detailed classification processes, taxonomy management, and real-time protection of sensitive information as it was created or ingested. The solution improved the organization's ability to search for concepts and multi-word terms and established ongoing information governance in the cloud.
